Lil Jon music biography continued...
Dupri's record label, So So Def. Soon, Jon became executive vice president of A&R (Artist & Repertoire) and, for seven years, worked the post while also spinning beats as a dancehall and hip-hop DJ on a radio show for Atlanta's V103. While there he also remixed and produced tracks for such acclaimed artists as Too Short, Xscape, Total, Usher, 112, and Whitney Houston just to name a few.
After making a name for himself, the rapper formed Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz in 1996 alongside pals Big Sam and Lil Bo. Having party rap, bass music, and dirty south as their musical styles, the three some released their first album "Get Crunk, Who U Wit: Da Album" in October 1997 which spawned the famous Atlanta club anthem "Who U Wit?." In album after album, Lil Jon songs touched fans with lyrics that were so x-rated they were over-the-top funny. In February 2006, he signaled his intention to come out with a solo album, Crunk Rock. He has also emerged as one of hip-hop's top producers, joining the ranks of Dr. Dre, Pharrell and Timbaland thanks to hits like "Get Low," "What U Gon' Do" and "Throw It Up." Just as notably, Lil Jon was the creative mind behind Usher's megahit "Yeah!," Ciara's hit "Goodies" and collaborations with everybody from Ludacris to TLC.
Lil' Jon has become well known for his famous chants and excessive interjections (most commonly "Yeah!", "What?!", and "Okay!"), but his hits are made infectious by his raw and unprocessed synthesizer riffs. One can easily stumble upon the very same sounds "within five minutes of sitting down at a keyboard store's display model" according to Lil Jon, but there's something about his star power and talent that makes them seem special coming from him.
